Ultimate Vegas Wedding Venue Guide: Restaurants for Small Receptions (Part One: North Strip)

Every Monday this year we are highlighting a unique Vegas wedding venue in the Ultimate Vegas Wedding Guide! Today the focus is on restaurants for private wedding receptions on the north end of The Strip.

Restaurant receptions are common for many smaller Vegas weddings, as almost every Las Vegas restaurant offers some kind of private dining, and they make it easy to host a reception for 30 or fewer people. Instead of everyone swimming in a room that is too large for the group, these restaurants tailorsized their venues to smaller groups. You get all the benefits of the restaurant’s decor and location in addition to customized menus, the ambience, service and privacy.

Here are six of my favorite restaurants on the north end of The Strip for wedding receptions of up to 30 guests. Stay tuned next Monday for Part Two which covers South and Center Strip restaurants.

Ultimate Vegas Wedding Venue Guide: House of Blues and Foundation Room

Every Monday this year we are highlighting a unique Vegas wedding venue in the Ultimate Vegas Wedding Guide! Today has to be one of my favorite venues ever for eclectic, music loving couples: the House of Blues and Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay!

Foundation Room and House of Blues Las Vegas | Las Vegas Wedding

House of Blues and Foundation Room at Mandalay Bay
http://www.houseofblues.com/lasvegas/
3950 S Las Vegas Boulevard, Las Vegas | 702.632.6932
Capacity: Up to 400 | Indoor + Outdoor Sites Available | Hosts: Ceremonies + Receptions
Find House of Blues on Twitter @HOBLasVegas | Facebook

The House of Blues is a restaurant situated on the casino floor of Mandalay Bay while the Foundation Room is a private club perched up on the 43rd floor of the hotel, with one of the best views in Las Vegas. Although perhaps better known for concerts, their Gospel Brunch and other musically inclined events, the House of Blues and Foundation Room offer unique spaces for wedding ceremonies and receptions, as well as creative catering.

All events are taken care of by Live Nation Entertainment and on-site services include food & beverage, entertainment, production and an event design team. Daytime and evening events are available.

Crossroads Ceremony at House of Blues

House of Blues offers a more folk-art style of decor, with an indoor courtyard and skylights. Because of the concert element, there are a few staged areas and lighting and production equipment is available. Music Hall, Courtyard Restaurant, New Orleans Room, Napoleon Deck and Crossroads Room comprise the options available at House of Blues. All venues are indoors. The smallest space hosts up to 36, while an entire buyout is 400.

Foundation Room and House of Blues Las Vegas | Las Vegas Wedding

Shangri La at Foundation Room Ceremony

The exclusive members only Foundation Room provides a stunning rooftop view up The Strip in addition to gothic and a more exotic decor and theme with thick draping and carpets, antique artifacts and deep rich tones and woods. If you can tear your eyes from the view, gold leaf ceiling and chandeliers complete the luxe look. Venue options here include: Foundation Dining Room, Mandalay Patio and Shangri-La Room as well as a few smaller rooms like the Gothic and 1856. This mix of indoor and outdoor venues host more intimate weddings, with different configurations suitable for 60 to 110 people.

Pricing + Catering

Venue rental fees start at $2500 with a food and beverage minimum. Menus can be provided for cocktail receptions, brunches, lunches, and both seated and buffet dinners. Creole and Cajun cuisine is a strong point, and interesting offerings include voodoo shrimp, catfish, jambalaya or southern style buffet breakfast spreads. More traditional catering options are available, as well.

Factor In

  • There are very few venues on The Strip that afford such an amazing view as the Foundation Room
  • Mandalay Bay offers a variety of other ceremony venues if you wish to only host your reception at House of Blues or Foundation Room
  • House of Blues and Foundation Room are independent from the Mandalay Bay wedding packages, so you will be able to bring in your own photographer for ceremony and reception
  • The exotic decor of the Foundation Room really speaks for itself and may not require much additional decoration
  • Seriously though, that view…

How to: Have a Desert Wedding Near Las Vegas

Although many couples opt for the neon and architecture of The Strip or even classic downtown Las Vegas for their wedding venue, the city is surrounded by the picturesque Mojave desert.

This landscape appeals to those looking for a more natural look and feel, and there are a variety of locations from a half hour to just over an hour’s drive outside the city. These desert wedding venues are a different side to Las Vegas, with majestic geological features, sand covered vistas and desert plant life like cacti and even Joshua trees.

Doing your wedding yourself at these venues requires a little bit of homework, in that you will need to purchase a wedding permit, and arrange for a wedding photographer and wedding officiant to meet you at the venue. The best time of day, for weather and photos, is sunset.

If that seems like a hassle, there are companies such as City Wedding Tours, Las Vegas Luv Bug Weddings and Cactus and Lace who provide packages to these locations that include photographer and minister, amongst other things.

It should be noted that none of these locations is really that well-suited to a full reception (the exception being Eldorado Canyon, and I recommend you use a planner if you do so) but that cake and a little Champagne toast might be in order.

Weddings at Eldorado Canyon at Nelson
This former gold mining town is popular with couples who want to combine rustic vintage buildings and whimsical props (crashed plane or antique trucks, anyone?) with their wedding vows. Eldorado is a great spot for those seeking a rustic, retro wedding style. This “ghost town” has been featured in the movie “3000 Miles from Graceland” and offers indoor and outdoor venues for your wedding ceremony.

Details: Eldorado Canyon Mine Tours
Venues:
Say your I Do’s surrounded by the antiques in the barn, or just outside amongst the cholla cacti and antique vehicles
Theme: Whimsical western with a vintage twist
Travel Time: 60 minutes south of Las Vegas
Fee: Starting at $100 for 10 people for up to two hours, $150 for up to 20 guests for up to two hours, $50 an hour after that

There are two fabulous outdoor spots to get married, including a scenic overlook and Calico Basin. Red Rock Canyon has been featured in the Little Vegas Wedding Venue Spotlight series.

Details: Red Rock National Conservation Area

Weddings at Valley of Fire State Park
A little more remote is the Valley of Fire, Nevada’s oldest state park with vivid red rocks, just north of Las Vegas. The dramatic whorled sandstone formations, natural arches and petrified wood as a wedding backdrop will wow you. The Valley of Fire has been seen in scenes of “Transformers” and “Planet of the Apes.”

Details: Valley of Fire State Park
Venues:
There are only four approved venues for weddings at Valley of Fire: Seven Sisters, Rainbow Vista, Visitor’s Center or The Cabins. Some sites host as few 15 people, some up to 100 people
Theme: Mother Nature on fire
Travel Time: 75 minutes north of Las Vegas

The entire property, which opened in 2009, is very modern and is quite beautiful. Being off Strip, they often have excellent pricing on their packages and offer quite a few upgrades included for free, such as a honeymoon suite, open bars and other bonuses to tempt you. The resort featured high tech amenities, some of which are incorporated into their wedding offerings.

Venues are indoors and outdoors, and includes 17,400-square-foot Milan ballroom; a boardroom and convenient business center. They also offer spacious suites like the Loft Suite which might be good for casual get togethers and parties.

Unique to M Resort are LUX and Villagio Del Sole. LUX is a private venue on the 16th floor of the resort offering 7,200 square-feet of scenic space and a terrace overlooking the Vegas valley and Strip from the top floor. Villaggio is the enormous outdoor pool and entertainment area including a 200 foot-long wedding aisle “catwalk” that crosses the pool. Also available are seven casino restaurants and five bars — Anthony’s Prime Steak and Marinelli’s Italian offer patios perfect for small to mid-sized weddings, overlooking the pool and Vegas area. The Hostile Grape wine cellar is also a great option for weddings.

Upgrades on wedding packages available include 50″ TV for photo slideshows, a customized digital display that greets guests as they arrive at your wedding via the elevator, custom dance floor gobo light, uplighting and custom cocktails. An onsite bakery, Babycakes, creates wedding cakes as well.
