Desert Wedding Inspiration | Little Vegas Wedding

With a heavy dose of southwestern style, this desert wedding inspiration is making me swoon. The turquoise shades pop against that dusty desert background. Eldorado Canyon was the perfect place to host this rustic, warm wedding inspiration. Feathers, arrows and touches of wood kept this theme on point.

Easy, Breezy Red Rock Elopement | Taylored Photo Memories

Red Rock Elopement | Little Vegas Wedding
I get so many emails from couples who are hoping for a just-for-two elopement, asking for my advice on where to hold it. For couples who love nature, Red Rock Canyon is often at the top of my recommendations. It’s private, incredibly scenic and convenient, as it is super close to Las Vegas.

Sam and Sage opted for a ceremony set in the wilds west of the Strip at Red Rock after their plans for a larger wedding in their home state got to be overwhelming. These two wanted to keep things natural, and a spring ceremony was perfect with cooler weather. A few flowers even made an appearance. They didn’t need much: a photographer, officiant, their vows and a simple banner to use in an announcement card keep things beautifully easy.

WHY RED ROCK CANYON?

Coming from Hawaii, we are surrounded by lush green mountains, waterfalls, and ocean everyday. The beauty of nature is so much of what we love about living in Hawaii so although we decided to escape the islands and elope in Vegas, it was important for us to still be surrounded by nature. Red Rock Canyon was so completely different than the landscape we are used to and the big open feel of a desert seemed like the perfect place for us to exchange our vows.

THE CEREMONY

Our original vision of our wedding day consisted of a large party at a beach house on the north shore of Oahu, but as we began to plan the event we became overwhelmed by the details and the amount of work and money it would take to create the perfect day. I woke up one morning and asked Sam if he wanted to elope. No fuss, no drama, no stress. Once we made the decision to elope there was a huge feeling of relief.

Our vision then became about what was really important to us; expressing our love for each other in an intimate ceremony surrounded by beauty. We wanted our day to be about US and we were determined to make that happen. It was perfect. Thanks to McKenzi Taylor our planning process was simple. I had seen pictures of Red Rock and knew that’s where we wanted to tie the knot, but I left it up to McKenzi to choose a time and exact location for our elopement. She suggested an officiant and we were done!

FAVORITE MEMORY

The one thing Sam and I did spend time on was writing our own vows to each other and I’d have to say that was the best part of the planning process. It was a way for each of us to reflect on our relationship and really focus on what this commitment meant to us. It was a beautiful process.

ELOPEMENT TIPS FROM SAM AND SAGE

Keep it simple! It’s so easy to get sucked into “you need this and you need that” for you wedding, but none of those things are actually what’s important. Your special day should be about you and your partner and sharing your love for one another. You don’t need $25,000 and fancy napkins to experience that. No matter what you decide, just be true to what YOU want and not what someone else tells you you need.

Desert Ghost Town Engagement | Little Vegas Wedding

I’m head over heels for couples who travel the world together, find themselves in Vegas and decide to get married. Floriane and Claude from France did it in that kitschy-classic, only-in-Vegas style: an Elvis officiant at Graceland Wedding Chapel.

While chapel rules dictated no photos of the wedding ceremony (sigh) the couple walked the Arts District before heading to Nelson’s Landing to get some desert shots. Funky, fresh and cool: I’m loving the style of these two! The explosion of color is just amazing.

Himalayan Pink Salt Desert Wedding Inspiration | Taylored Photo Memories

Pink Desert Wedding Inspiration | Little Vegas Wedding

The New Age flair for this styled shoot takes its inspiration from a gorgeous pink mineral: rose quartz, as well as Himalayan pink salt. Paired with succulents, local botanicals and geometric shapes the adorable tiny chapel at Cactus Joe’s Blue Diamond Nursery takes on a modern feel.

You’ll find many wonderful ideas to take away from this post including boutonnieres made of minerals, eco-friendly favors and the subtle southwestern styling with a touch of vintage glam.

More from the stylist, Amy, of Design in Mind Events:

With the popularity of Himalayan salt rocks appearing in cooking recipes as well as home decor, it was a wonderful opportunity to implement the natural mineral source in a wedding setting. The soft luminescent glow of peach and pink from the rocks exemplifies the mood of a desert sunset. With the color palette of pink, peach, champagne and gold, we wanted to incorporate the adorable pink chapel located on the premises! Simple rentals such as champagne linens, gold flatware and pink depression glass adds a pop of romance to the natural desert setting.

To minimize the wedding-carbon-footprint, blooming cacti were placed in rose quartz votive rocks and only a few sprigs of blooms were used to enhance the centerpieces. For the ceremony decor, various sizes of Himalayan salt rocks and succulents were used to line the aisle while strands of rose quartz were used as a backdrop.

When purchasing decor for the big day, keep in mind of how it can be used once the wedding is over. For instance, the salt rocks can be gifted to your bridal party and family members who helped with the wedding. The salt rock lamp can be used inside the home or you can remove the cord and bulb for outside use on the patio or garden.

Besides the DIY rose quartz curtain used as the ceremony backdrop, other DIY elements showcased in the shoot were the rose quartz bridal hair piece, the groom’s rose quartz boutonniere and rose quartz place setting wrap for the sweetheart table. We hope this shoot ignites some fresh ideas for those who are looking to plan either a desert, southwestern, eco-friendly, DIY, or just a simply pink palette themed wedding.

Eldorado Desert + Downtown Drive-Thru Weddings | JamieY Photography

El Dorado Ghost Town | Little Vegas Wedding

Christy and Nick had a double-header for their wedding day, choosing two iconic locations for their two sets of vows. I think that’s the beauty of Vegas —  you can have your (wedding) cake and eat it too. Desire an intimate desert wedding in a one-of-a-kind location with a customized ceremony? You got it. Also want a kitschy, over-the-top Elvis drive-thru ceremony? Yup, they’ve got that too.

And despite travelling thousands of miles, they still managed to incorporate personal details into their wedding day. Christy’s dress was reworked by her sister from some lace their mother has had for several decades. The bouquet brooch? A nod to the couple’s cat, Sumo. The ringbearer was a stuffed lamb named Wilbaaa who has been Nick’s travel buddy for some time and also served as Best Lamb. He also sported an outfit created by Christy’s sister.

More from JamieY Photography:

Instead of having mainly posed pictures, they opted to do fun pictures with themes and include their family in them. They brought some wild west themed clothes. They had a fake roulette game set up and had the dad playing for the girl. Nick won of course. Christy’s parents even put on some Property of Las Vegas jail shirts for some fun pictures of Nick capturing them as the sheriff.
