If you are on the fence about marrying in the desert near Las Vegas at any of the spectacular natural venues available (ie., Red Rock Canyon, Grand Canyon and so on) today’s wedding will push you over the edge, solidly into the “We have to do that NOW” camp.
A few months back, Cactus and Lace Weddings approached me to help promote a contest they were running for a couple get married at a styled wedding at the Valley of Fire. Dozens of you entered, but ultimately Canadians Dawn and Scott won the package. The pair flew down with their daughter and other loved ones for their intimate November elopement and cake and champagne reception surrounded by a gorgeous desert setting.
From the palette drawn from Mother Nature to the succulent-adorned floral designs and the vintage wood furniture paired with touches of lace, your heart will be racing and you will be feeling the lovvvve in this little family. Longing for your own stylish wedding set in the heart of an amazing natural area? Read more about desert weddings here or check out the packages Cactus and Lace Weddings now offer. A stylish desert elopement … with none of the stress.
WHY LAS VEGAS?
Scott and I met five years ago. He is in sales and I am a firefighter in Toronto. We have a small daughter together. We both have a love for Las Vegas and try to go at least once or twice a year. During our first trip there together, we rented a car and drove out to the Grand Canyon, but in the back of my mind I thought to myself “How cool would it be to get married/elope out here in the desert?”
When I saw the contest listed on Little Vegas Wedding, I just had to enter it but I never thought a girl from Canada would win. I was so surprised and shocked when I heard from the girls at Cactus & Lace that I had actually won!
THE CEREMONY + RECEPTION
I can’t say enough about how amazing the entire experience was. I had a Skype conversation and many emails back and forth with Cactus & Lace but never in my wildest dreams would have ever imagined the experience would be as perfect as it was. When we pulled up to the ceremony site my eyes welled up. Everything was absolutely perfect.
The girls at Cactus & Lace listened to everything I said and as a result totally nailed my vision and my taste. The ceremony was just as we both wanted it to be: personal, non-denominational and quick :)
The photos are breathtaking and I have three new friends who helped to create one of THE most memorable days of my life.

This outdoor wedding at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park is full of gorgeous teal, turquoise and blue accents – including the sky on what was a crystal clear autumn day! Nicole and Jeff, who met as they are both crazy for cycling, got married in an intimate ceremony that included a ring warming, on a ring pillow Nicole made herself. The couple had wanted a serene and natural venue, and found it in this gorgeous space.
The ceremony was accompanied by a guitarist who played mostly songs by The Beatles, as requested by Nicole and Jeff. Nicole wore Alfred Angelo and carried a round bouquet of fire orange calla lilies and roses which not only complemented the teal palette, but the surrounding cliffs of the Red Rock mountains.

Despite being a winter baby and living in a very snowy place, I think autumn might be my favorite time of year. The long sun, beautiful foliage and warm temperatures are so lovely, and make it perfect for a wedding!
Afton and Don chose fall for the season and theme of their wedding, accenting the lovely outdoor ceremony and reception with shades of burnt orange, brown and sienna. Even their photographer, Jennifer Steffen, co-ordinated by accident, choosing to wear orange and brown, too!
This couple, who are the proud owners of five dogs, a mix of dobermans and rottweilers, remembered to include their pups at the wedding with a super cool custom cake topper. (If you are a dog lover, you should check out Afton and Don’s Calico Basin engagement session!) The reception fun went late into the evening with lots of dancing! What a beautiful fall wedding.

Emerald at Queensridge is an all inclusive wedding hall destination, with a beautiful garden for outdoor ceremonies and a hall for banquets and all night dancing! Shameka and Kenyatta held their spring wedding there recently, with McKenzi of Taylored Photo Memories there to document the day, along with cinematographers Memory Lane Video. (Check out their sneak peek clip below!)
There are so many great ideas in this wedding – pops of bright orange, blinged out custom Converse wedding shoes, flowing orange jumpsuits for the bridesmaids, a candy bar and an absolutely awesome wedding cake featuring engagement photos (see that session also photographed by Taylored Photo Memories at Eldorado Canyon here!) and quotes written on it. Such a great way to use pictures from an engagement session!

Shameka’s aunt designed the floral bouquets, boutonnieres and pomanders, as well as the wedding wands in those brilliant orange tones. I love the shots of the party later on – Emerald at Queensridge has a custom light setup so that you can change the lighting in the hall and I think it just adds to the awesome reception this wedding had going on.
One of the coolest things about Emerald at Queensridge is their fantastic getting ready rooms for the wedding party – lots of space and mirrored makeup stations for the ladies, big screen TVs and a PS3 for the gents!

Desert weddings are among my favorite to share on Little Vegas Wedding and today’s from Key Lime Photography does not disappoint. Marianna and Travis were wed in an intimate outdoor ceremony just beyond the outer reaches of Las Vegas.
The couple have a rather unique romantic courtship story to share when they meet others…Marianna is a forensic pathologist and Travis a homicide detective and, well, work brought them together when they found themselves working a case together. It’s not everyday you can say you met the love of your life at an autopsy, but Marianna and Travis can!
For having such a great “how they met” story, it was appropriate they chose such a unique location for their destination wedding – the Red Spring boardwalk at Calico Basin at Red Rock Canyon. (Note: they do require special notice and permits, but Marianna said it was easy to do. However she also said there is about a 10 minute walk to the platform from the parking lot to where the ceremonies normally happen.) The couple decided Calico was the spot for them as it allowed outside photographers unlike many chapels, and was close to The Strip. The photos really are spectacular – great venue choice!
Rabbi Mel Hecht officiated and wove family traditions into their ceremony which was performed infront of a small group of friends and family. Afterwards the wedding party enjoyed some dancing and a meal at Firefly Tapas Kitchen (in an alternate space) plus slices of what has to be one of the most personal, fun and totally awesome wedding cakes I’ve ever seen, made by Cakes on the Move. What else could it be but a crime scene cake?
