El Dorado Ghost Town | Little Vegas Wedding

Christy and Nick had a double-header for their wedding day, choosing two iconic locations for their two sets of vows. I think that’s the beauty of Vegas —  you can have your (wedding) cake and eat it too. Desire an intimate desert wedding in a one-of-a-kind location with a customized ceremony? You got it. Also want a kitschy, over-the-top Elvis drive-thru ceremony? Yup, they’ve got that too.

And despite travelling thousands of miles, they still managed to incorporate personal details into their wedding day. Christy’s dress was reworked by her sister from some lace their mother has had for several decades. The bouquet brooch? A nod to the couple’s cat, Sumo. The ringbearer was a stuffed lamb named Wilbaaa who has been Nick’s travel buddy for some time and also served as Best Lamb. He also sported an outfit created by Christy’s sister.

More from JamieY Photography:

Instead of having mainly posed pictures, they opted to do fun pictures with themes and include their family in them. They brought some wild west themed clothes. They had a fake roulette game set up and had the dad playing for the girl. Nick won of course. Christy’s parents even put on some Property of Las Vegas jail shirts for some fun pictures of Nick capturing them as the sheriff.

Funky Fresh Drive-Thru Wedding in Vegas | The Amberlight Collective

Drive Thru Wedding | Little Vegas Wedding

So let’s talk about wedding stress. Maybe you’re going through this right now, even.

Planning a wedding is tough. Slow RSVPers and menus and budgets and what to wear and looking your best and cousin Jo can’t sit next to aunt Mary and … well you get the idea. Livia and Mike sidestepped all of that when they decided that the big wedding they were planning at home in Canada was just not their style.

What WAS their style? A funky vintage-inspired downtown Vegas elopement at a drive-thru, turns out. And you can’t do a drive thru wedding in Vegas in just any old car. They did it up in style, and rented an awesomely appropriate 1965 Cadillac convertible, wore some awesome outfits and did things their way through A Little White Wedding Chapel’s Tunnel of Love. I feel like the creative, artsy backdrops and murals of downtown and the Arts District suited them perfectly, especially when the Caddy is used like a photo prop!

WHY LAS VEGAS?

After we got engaged (December 6, 2013), we decided that we wanted to elope because we really wanted our ceremony to be an intimate one —  just vows between the two of us. At the same time, we also knew that we wanted the day to be fun, light-hearted, unique and capable of capturing an old-school vibe. Las Vegas, with its fantastic reputation for hosting incredible weddings, and its rich entertainment history seemed like the perfect spot. Plus, as Canadians, we appreciated the promise of a warmer climate. We also loved that, after the wedding, Vegas offered endless opportunities for celebration and relaxation, all in one exciting city.

THE CEREMONY — Tunnel of Love at A Little White Wedding Chapel

We got ready in our suite at the Hard Rock Hotel. We ordered room service, put on some records (we had brought along a portable record player) and just enjoyed the experience of being together. When we were ready, we drove to our venue in our rented silver Cadillac convertible. Prior to exchanging vows, however, we had to shuffle ourselves to the backseat of the car, which took some coordination, particularly for me, as I wore boots with six-inch heels. The photos of this coordinated effort may be some of our favourites, because we look as though we are engaged in a ritualistic jovial jig.

The ceremony itself was short (about 10 minutes in length), but incredibly meaningful. The vows provided by the officiant were beautiful and truly reflected what the day meant to us. We could not have written them better ourselves. Also, with only us in the car and no other guests, the whole thing felt incredibly personal and intimate despite the casual nature of the setting. The drive-thru part of the wedding balanced out the formality of the ceremony and truly captured the relaxed ambiance for which we were hoping it. Not only did a ceremony in a vintage Cadillac feel quintessentially “Vegas”, it was also a little quirky and offbeat —  a fantastic alternative to traditional options that we had hoped to sidestep by eloping to Vegas.

THE RECEPTION

After the ceremony, we drove along the Vegas strip in our convertible, dressed in our wedding best, with the sun setting. In a literal sense, we drove into the sunset. What we didn’t expect was the amount of attention this little journey would garner. Tourists and locals snapped photos, shouted out congratulations, and ran out into traffic in hopes of getting a closer look. It was a great way to be greeted into married life! When we arrived back at our hotel, we enjoyed some pink Champagne before heading out for old-fashioned cocktails and steak tartare at Gordon Ramsay Steak in Paris. After dinner, we returned to our suite, where we ate our custom-made cherry crumble pie in bed (thanks to the Bouchon Bakery!). It was the perfect ending to the perfect day.

DIY DETAILS + DECOR

Although our ceremony and overall wedding did not have an explicit theme, the elements included in our day all had a vintage, throwback, rock-and-roll feel. Between Mike’s classic 1950s look, my bohemian 1960s style, the classic car, our beloved vinyl records that had made the trip over in a suitcase and the perfect Vegas backdrop, everything came together to create an eclectic old-school atmosphere that felt truly authentic.

Livia’s dress is amazing, isn’t it? They ended up using one of these fab Amberlight Collective photos to announce their wedding on Instagram two weeks after the elopement. No fuss, no muss.

Funky Downtown Vegas Drive-Thru Wedding from Taylored Photo Memories

Drive Thru Vegas Wedding | Little Vegas Wedding

Britney and Jon decided Vegas was the perfect spot for a Halloween wedding — the anniversary of their first date! They didn’t go with an overt theme but spread the wedding fun throughout two days, including a drive-thru wedding in downtown Las Vegas and a bridal photo shoot at The Neon Museum.

This destination wedding was on the intimate side, but Britney and Jon were able to infuse many personal touches into the day, including a custom LEGO minifig cake topper, playing card stationery and super cool Millennium Falcon cufflinks. A touch of Halloween was included in the glam gold bat headband Britney wore. Keep reading for more about this unique Vegas wedding from their photographer!

More from McKenzi of Taylored Photo Memories, their photographer:

Britney and Jon wanted to embrace what a Vegas wedding had to offer and after getting to know them better during our two day photo shoot I would have to agree that it was the perfect choice for them. From the playing card themed invitations to the iconic pink convertible where they exchanged their vows and rings, this bride and groom focused on the details to pull off a fun and memorable event that revolved around them as a couple. I feel that too often a lot of couples can get overwhelmed with the amount of stress and work that goes into the grand production which is a traditional wedding.

If you are one of those couples who is fighting with your soon to be spouse over the budget or the guest list, my advice is to take a deep breath and always remember that your wedding day, traditional and elopements alike, is about the two of you. So take a page from Britney and Jon’s book and make your day about you, make it memorable and make it fun!

Fun and Fabulous 15 Year Vegas Vow Renewal by Ryan Ortega Photography

Fun and Fabulous 15 Year Vegas Vow Renewal by Ryan Ortega Photography

From time to time I like to peek in on the Vegas wedding tag on social media. There are all sorts of goodies in there: people wishing for Vegas weddings, people going to Vegas weddings, and sometimes people who are having awesome Vegas weddings.

Recently I was lucky enough to stumble across totally fun Instagram video that highlighted a vow renewal in just a short 15 seconds. This charming pocket film by Jason Magbanua documented Abet and Benz’s anniversary Vegas vow renewal celebrating 15 years. I was hooked and had to know more!

Abet and Benz came from the Philippines for a road trip tour of the United States with friends, and planned their Vegas vow renewal spontaneously along the way. The couple happen to run a very successful wedding website called Weddings at Work (W@W for short) helping Filipino couples find suppliers and vendors for their weddings.

When you talk about, write and share wedding information all day, it’s no surprise that you are drawn to the simplicity of Las Vegas, and it’s also no surprise you want something fun, easy and memorable. So the couple decided to have a drive thru wedding at A Special Memory Wedding Chapel.

Although the ceremony was quick and simple, the rest of the wedding was packed with meaning and details that you would expect from a couple who have been together 15+ years. Of course, they also happen to be details that are drawn from a couple who know the best wedding vendors in the Philippines – some of whom are travelling with you in your bridal party!

Benz wore a custom hand painted dress based on a tattoo she has. Abet, a Vespa lover, included scooter details in his accessories. Vegas appeared in a bouquet and corsages with a casino and gambling theme. When the time came, the couple drove up to the window in a red hot Ford Mustang and exchanged vows…again.

The 5 person wedding party then cruised down the highway in their convertible to Eldorado Canyon in Nelson to get some desert shots before indulging in dinner at Mon Ami Gabi back on The Strip. A totally fun and fabulous Vegas vow renewal!

Read more about this adventurous wedding vow renewal over on the W@W blog!

Drive-Thru Wedding with Downtown Style {A Little White Chapel}

drive-thru-vegas-wedding009

Lauren & Mitchell are Las Vegas locals who chose one of the most fun wedding ceremonies I think you can have in Las Vegas – the drive thru at A Little White Wedding Chapel! Brilliant Imagery was there to capture all the moments, including a very personal photo idea that the bride, had.

Since Lauren, the bride, is a surrealist artist she wanted to recreate a favorite work by René Magritte, a Belgian artist. He painted “The Lovers (I & II)” which depict a couple with burlap sacks over their heads. It’s thought provoking work, to be sure. A little fancy work with Rachel, their photographer, some sacks and voila! Magritte’s work was meant to challenge the viewer’s perceptions of reality, and I think both the painting and this photograph reworking do that! I love it when wedding photographs really show who the couple are as people, not just as a bride a groom.

A tour of downtown Vegas completed the day, with photos in unconventional places like the top of a parkade and a colorful graffiti wall. But then again, this couple is a little outside of the box. Love it!
