26 Wedding Cakes Masquerading as Hotels in Las Vegas

Here’s a hazard as a wedding blogger. You look at many, MANY wedding cakes every day. But how many is too many?

Pinterest, Flickr, on other wedding blogs, cake blogs, in cake studio windows…they all feed the addiction. And if you’re a Vegas hotel obsessed blogger this just sort of blends together after a while, and sometimes, well, the cakes start to look like Vegas hotels. Or is it the other way around?

So join me on a journey as we re-imagine some famous Las Vegas hotels, casinos and landmarks as wedding cakes in this fun post. While all but one of these cakes were not expressly designed to reflect the hotel, I couldn’t help but notice a passing resemblance in many of these cases.

Some of the comparisons are offbeat and a little abstract. Some are right on the nose. All are inspired by the architecture, colors and themes of various Las Vegas hotels and landmarks.

1. Golden Nugget

Inspiration drawn by the prismatic wall that lines the exterior of the Golden Nugget

2. Mix Restaurant at Mandalay bay

Cake: | MiX

Cake by Sweets by Natalie Kay | Mix at Mandalay Bay

The glass bubbles also remind me of Twist at Mandarin Oriental, too. It’s that glass bubble connection.

3. O’Sheas

RIP O’Sheas. You are missed.

4. LOVE by Cirque du Soleil at Mirage

5. Tournament of Kings at Excalibur

That cake is probably too regal to be associated with Excalibur, to be honest

6. Fab Rooms at Flamingo

I actually have a hard time believing this ISN’T the cake directly inspired by something in Vegas. But that’s actually the next cake…

7. Stardust

Cake: |

Cake by Retro Bakery (Las Vegas) | Stardust sign

Kari of Retro Bakery in Las Vegas was inspired by the old school Stardust (RIP) sign for this cake

8. Linq at The Quad

At first I thought this most reminded me of Cosmopolitan (the purple, maybe?) but then Vegas Tripping reminded me of the Linq Vortex at the renovated Quad. Nice Qake, huh?

9. Poker Room at Aria

10. Mandalay Bay Beach

Cake: | Mandalay Bay Beach

11. Dale Chihuly Glass Installation at Bellagio

That cake is sugar art, directly inspired by Chihuly’s work. Amazing, right?

12. Caesars Palace

Cake by Erica O’Brien Cakes | Caesars Palace

13. Chandelier Bar at Cosmopolitan

14. Circus Circus

Oddly, there is a lack of wedding cakes with a creepy clown theme.

15. The Shops at Crystals

Cake | The Shops at Crystals

Cake by CHOCCYWOCCYDOODAH Chocolaterie | The Shops at Crystals

To me, the cake is not even the most ridiculous thing here (although it IS impressive) it’s the name of the chocolate boutique that makes it: CHOCCYWOCCYDOODAH. I’ll bet they Google really well. They also do an amazing mermaid cake I almost included as an homage to Silverton Lodge and Casino.

16. Encore Lobby Bar and Cafe

Cake: |

Cake by Unknown | Encore Lobby Bar + Cafe

I think I saw every damned red and gold cake on the planet trying to match this bar

17. Veer Towers

Alright, I admit it. I’m stretching it with this one. I just really like that cake!

18. Mandalay Bay

I would have used this for Tropicana if they had kept their gold windows.

19. Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health

So the sugar “curl” on top is actually supposed to resemble an ocean wave, but all I saw was the twisted exterior of the Lou Ruvo Center when I saw it.

20. Luxor

This is the cake I am most likely to inhale on this list, by the way. It’s white chocolate + chai with a caramel center, topped with gold leaf. All in an adorable single serving size. Maybe not so adorable when you’ve eaten three, though

Could also double as a cake stand in for the Clark County Government Center pyramid

21. NY NY Las Vegas

22. Suite at Bellagio

23. Vdara

Cake: |

Cake by Unknown | Bold Chevron Wall at Vdara

24. Venetian and Palazzo

Good for Rio, maybe, too?

25. Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas

I really really wanted to replicate the gold bullion wall in the lobby of the Mandarin for this one, but no body made a cake nice enough to show off, so fans it was. The runner up is below

26. Chateau at Paris Las Vegas

Cause nothing says “classy French baroque design” like one of the busiest clubs on the Strip and the shenanigans that happen in there

If you’re looking for that extra cute layer of Vegas fun for your wedding, maybe matching your cake to your venue is just the ticket! But at the very least, you got to check out some gorgeous eye candy. Or eye cake, as it were. :)

If you didn’t have a cake craving at the start of this post, you probably do now. I’m off to get a slice!

A Garden Elopement with Elvis! {Flamingo Las Vegas}

The setting for today’s wedding is the peaceful and private Botanical Gardens at Flamingo Las Vegas! Amanda and Curtis roadtripped from Canada to get wed by an Elvis impersonator in the gardens, and had Dennis Dayrit Photography cover the action. That’s a long (but scenic) drive!

Although I do love the photographs of the couple (and her plumeria and vintage brooch purple and turquoise bouquet), I also love that Dennis took some landscape photos of the beautiful scenery at Flamingo. If you haven’t been there, it’s a gorgeous spot to hold a wedding, and there is no shortage of beautiful shots with over 15 acres of gardens, tropical foliage, water features and even birds and wildlife.

As mentioned, although the bride and groom drive to Las Vegas, the other guests joined them by flying down to watch the vows which were exchanged at the Gazebo Chapel. Such a lovely wedding.

Fun bonus fact from Dennis: “Elvis” at this wedding is actually Reverend Roland August, and he’s appeared as Elvis in many TV shows and music videos, perhaps most notably Katy Perry’s “Waking Up in Vegas” and an episode of Gene Simmons Family Jewels. Love it!

Walk on the Wild Side: 8 Vegas Wedding Venues for Animal Lovers

8 Vegas Wedding Venues featuring Animals

Las Vegas is full of opportunities for observing human animals, but also a variety of other species as well. What’s more, many of these locations allow for special events, including wedding ceremonies and receptions.

Read on for some of the more “wild” Vegas wedding venues!

Silverton Casino

This off-Strip resort and casino boasts one of the most spectacular aquariums I’ve ever seen. It’s 117,000 gallons of salt water goodness, with many species of ray, shark and over 4,000 tropical fish. If that’s not enough, check out the jellyfish tank in the Mermaid Lounge or roll over to Bass Pro Shops to see some taxidermied land animals and freshwater fish tanks.

The wedding actually takes place underwater, and can include mermaids in lieu of bridesmaids, if yours prefer not to get wet.

 Sagebrush Ranch

Sagebrush Ranch is a horse ranch close to Las Vegas and they feature horseback weddings. Brings new meaning to the word “getting hitched.” This company will pick you up from your hotel, wed you in the desert and then treat you to a cowboy steak dinner afterwards.

Lion Habitat Ranch

When the MGM shut down their legendary lion habitat to make room for a nightclub in 2012, many wondered what would become of the lions. Well, they’ve just stopped commuting so much, and are spending their days full time on their ranch (they used to be brought daily to the MGM.) Around 40 lions, cubs to adults, live on the ranch. It’s located at 12175 Bermuda Road and the ranch is now open the public, including meet and greets with the lions, corporate events and even weddings.

Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay

It’s been mentioned many times on this blog, but Mandalay Bay hosts one wedding at day inside the Shark Reef at 9am before the aquarium opens to the public. In addition to the early hour, you are only allowed a certain number of guests. Unlike the Silverton Casino aquarium, you get to stay dry, but it is sure to be a memorable experience nonetheless.

Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary

When I contacted the staff at the Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary, they stated that they have not yet held weddings in their facility (after a fire a few years ago, they have been renovating and upgrading) but they were open to it. They have an outdoor gazebo and you have the added benefit of being surrounded by some of the incredible local wildlife and plants found in and around the deserts of Nevada in addition to other amazing animals. {Goat photo courtesy: vgsgeek}

Bonnie Springs Ranch

This little gem is part replica western town, part zoo, part wedding venue. You can have a western style wedding with a BBQ dinner and meet some ponies, peacocks and potbellied pigs to name a few of the animals. They are also home to the Red Rock Riding stables, and so they offer horseback rides and weddings as well as an on-site motel.

Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden & Dolphin Habitat

This special area at the Mirage is not just an animal education center, it’s also a special events venue for rent. The tropical area offers lush foliage and the chance to meet white lions, white tigers, panthers, leopards, and bottlenose dolphins.

Flamingo Gardens

The Flamingo name isn’t just arbitrary – the on Strip hotel features a large garden that is the home to over 300 birds, including a pat (the fancy word for flock) of Chilean flamingos, as well as swans, ducks, turtle and koi. The hotel chapel does have a special ceremony called Butterfly Kisses which is set amongst the birds in their tropical garden and features a live release of butterflies during the ceremony.

What’s your favorite Vegas venue featuring animals?
