I’m really feeling Mount Charleston as a Vegas wedding venue these days (just check out these other recent weddings there) and for good reason: it’s natural, relaxed and just so cosy. For couples who are seeking an outdoorsy wedding venue near Vegas, Mount Charleston is a perfect spot to pick, just 30 minutes away from the city.
Amy and Jeff are a couple who love to be in wilderness and woodsy, so for these locals, the Resort at Mount Charleston was the natural choice for their wedding. Joined by their loved ones, including their dog Lucky, the celebration was DIYers dream with a rustic feel to the decor and decorations. Balancing out the feminine touches are airplane details as table number markers and the guestbook propeller blade. Perfect, as the groom is a pilot!
More from the photographer:
The outdoors are very important to this vibrant couple, so it was no surprise that they chose a Mt. Charleston Resort wedding. They exchanged their vows under the fresh mountain air surrounded by friends and family. Amy’s grandfather officiated the wedding, making this day even more memorable.
Jeff says he moved to Vegas and hit the jackpot, maybe not in dollars but definitely in love, when he met Amy. He knew he’d met the girl of his dreams as he sat across from her on that first date. This first grade teacher had a smile that made his heart melt. With each twirl of her hair he fell more and more in love. Amy knew she’d finally met someone she could take home. Here was a man that not only could fly himself anywhere he wanted, but was a hunting and fishing kind a guy. Someone that would fit in with her family. She was only too happy to show him around Las Vegas, since he was new to to the area.
The Mt. Charleston Resort chalet has a western feel to it, which fit these two being from Michigan and Wisconsin. There was a bit of DIY presence in the decorations. The bouquet was put together by Amy herself. The bride and groom were showered with flying paper airplanes as they left the marriage ceremony. Such a perfect mountain wedding!

Mount Charleston is, in a word: magical. The mountainous setting and lodge-like atmosphere are a world away from the Strip of Las Vegas…but not a long drive away. Brenda and Johnny held their casual rustic wedding on the mountain, opting for the surroundings of nature and trees instead of lights and busy Strip bustle. Personalized DIY projects and vintage touches created by the bride rounded out this warm, woodsy wedding.
WHY MOUNT CHARLESTON?
Since we love the outdoors and knew we did not want to get married on the Strip, Mount Charleston was the perfect location because it was far away enough from the Strip but close enough for our family and friends to make the trip. We also both loved the fact that the ceremony took place with the mountains as our backdrop. I couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else.
THE CEREMONY — Patio at Mount Charleston Lodge
They set up and aisle and arranged the chairs. We had a view of the mountains and the cabins to the left. The ceremony was short and sweet, and had an intimate feeling.
THE RECEPTION — Restaurant at Mount Charleston Lodge
The venue included the ceremony space, the reception area, and a three-course dinner (which was delicious.) There were about six long tables set up for the guest and extra tables for the cake and gifts. The dance floor and DJ/karaoke were on the left side of the restaurant and the photobooth was set up on the right. I really enjoyed the reception because guests were able to hang out on the patio outside and dance inside. Overall it was a fun day which was exactly what we wanted.
DIY DETAILS + DECOR
I pretty much made all the decorations and centerpieces myself! My sister and I made all the signs and seating charts out of old picture frames. I spray painted them with chalk board paint, and she hand wrote everything. I bought mason jars and my husband and I made the flower arrangements inside, they were placed on top of vintage books I found at different thrift stores. I made the table numbers from the pages of the books. Our sweetheart table had a monogramed wooden slice, which my husband and I painted and put together. Our personalized button favors were made by a friend and our invitations were hand made by Mariah who I found on Pinterest.
So many things went on that day that I will never forget, from the moment we both started crying when we saw each other for the first time, to the cutting of our beautiful cake.
However, my favorite memory would have to be the day after the wedding. We woke up very early in the cabin and had a chance to reflect on everything that had just happened. We took our time looking at pictures, reading cards and had a chance to take it all in. It was beautiful waking up in the mountains like that.
LAS VEGAS WEDDING TIPS FROM BRENDA + JOHNNY
Pick a good photographer! Take your time planning, enjoy all the little things, be in the moment of the day and enjoy your celebration.
GUESTCOUNT + BUDGET
The guest count of the wedding was about 54 people, honestly I’m not 100% sure what our budget was, it couldn’t have been more than $8,000-$10,000 and that’s including every little thing.

Ski lifts, snow drifts and wedding style, oh my! It’s about that time again — Christmas in July! Hard to believe, but exactly five months from today, a chill will be in the air and Christmas will be upon us. This isn’t much consolation right now as Las Vegas hovers around the 110°F / 40°C mark this week, but let today’s wedding inspiration take you away from the heat for just a few blissful moments.
I’m in love with this breath of fresh (and cool!) air from Chelsea Nicole Photography in the form of a styled shoot at Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort (a beautiful venue I’ve featured before.) Today’s homegrown wedding ceremony took place nestled within the beautiful pine trees at Mount Charleston, with a backyard reception to follow. Ashley and Dustin are Las Vegas locals who crafted almost all of this heartfelt, homegrown wedding by themselves.
You’ll be amazed at the thought and planning that went into this mountain wedding. From the rustic handmade benches and signage at the ceremony site to the romantic crisscross bistro lighting strings hovering over the reception space, JOA Photography captured all of the details!

Amy and Jeff are two lovebirds who have planned for their wedding to take place at the elegant yet rustic Mount Charleston Lodge, just outside of Las Vegas. It’s a beautiful spot for a wedding, as we’ve seen before.
Their photographer McKenzi from Taylored Photo Memories thought it might be nice to hold their engagement session in the area where they will be wed, so the couple and their high energy pitbull, Lucky, headed up the mountain. There, a beautifully neutral winter palette of greys, whites and dusky beiges as well as a lightly snow-dusted landscape waited for them at this casual and comfy engagement session.
Congratulations, Amy and Jeff!
